Craft knife in carbon steel, Color of the Year 2025
The 9 cm polished blade is made from German carbon steel, C100S - a high-quality knife steel that, combined with expertise in hardening and metallurgical knowledge, results in a blade with a balanced combination of hardness, toughness, and edge retention. Please note that carbon steel is prone to rust, so it's best to wipe and oil the blade after use.
The knife blade undergoes a rigorous manufacturing process that has been refined over 130 years at the knife factory in Mora. Morakniv’s goal is to achieve the ideal balance between optimal sharpness and edge retention. The knife blade is heat-treated by first being heated to over seven hundred degrees, then rapidly cooled to room temperature in a very short time. Finally, the blade is tempered at several hundred degrees to maximize the steel's performance. After this heat treatment, the knife blade achieves a hardness of 58.5 HRC.
The knife blade is side-ground under meticulous control, followed by precision sharpening of the edge, where the knife receives its Scandi grind through the honing phase. Finally, the blade is polished in two steps, a rough polish followed by a fine polish. Since the knife spine is not compatible with a fire starter, it is left unprocessed, with visible traces from the stamping stage. The blade is now ready for handle attachment, which is done using fully automated injection molding machines.
The ergonomic handle, made from high-quality polymer, is injection molded in three layers onto the knife tang, making the final knife construction robust and durable. Simultaneously, the knife sheaths are produced in parallel with the knives in the same fully automated robotic cell, ensuring a perfect match in both color and form.
The knife sheath features a practical button adorned with the coat of arms of Dalarna in the shape of a shield, serving as a historical guarantee of quality and craftsmanship. During the same injection molding process, the sheath is equipped with an integrated belt clip, which allows for attachment to a tool button on workwear, a belt or to be connected with another Morakniv.
Each component is meticulously developed and crafted with masterful quality by skilled craftsmen at the Morakniv knife factory in Mora, Sweden.
